Who we are
Verovascend is provided by Verova Group Ltd, which is responsible for your personal data. You can contact us at any time at [email protected].
What we collect
- Your account details: your email address, your username and your password, which is stored in an encrypted form that we cannot read.
- Your answers to the welcome quiz, your course progress, your scores and the notes Ascend writes for you.
- Your voice. When you speak in the app, your recording is sent securely to our servers so that it can be turned into text and analysed, and Ascend can give you feedback on your words and on how you sounded. In lessons, Speak Lab and games, we keep the text of your answers and your feedback so that you can follow your progress, but we do not keep the recording.
- The Social Experiment: the voice notes and messages you share, your friends list, friend requests, invitations, and any blocks and reports. Voice notes and practice-session recordings are deleted automatically after seven days.
- Technical information that we need to run the service securely, such as your IP address in our server logs.
We do not show advertising, we do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
How we use it
- To provide the course and your account, and to remember your progress.
- To give you feedback from Ascend on what you say and how you say it.
- To keep The Social Experiment safe, by checking content automatically and reviewing reports.
- To send you emails about your account, such as password reset codes.
- To keep the service secure and working well.
We use your data because we need it to provide the service you have asked for, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and secure, and where the law requires it.
Who we share it with
We only share your data with trusted companies that help us run Verovascend, and only for that purpose:
- OpenAI, which turns recordings into text, creates Ascend's feedback and checks content for safety. Under its terms for businesses, OpenAI does not use this data to train its models.
- ElevenLabs, which creates Ascend's spoken voice. It receives the words Ascend says, never your recordings.
- Render, which hosts our servers and database.
- Cloudflare, which runs our website and email routing.
- Resend, which sends our account emails.
- Apple, which handles all payments for subscriptions.
Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by recognised safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. Voice notes and practice-session recordings in The Social Experiment are deleted after seven days. Reports may be kept for longer where we need them to keep the community safe.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. To use any of these rights, please email us.
You can delete your account and all of your data at any time from the Account screen in the app.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Age
Verovascend is only for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make an important change, we will tell you in the app.
